Rotator Cuff Physiotherapy
What is Shoulder Rotator Cuff Tendonitis?
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint. These muscles give the joint support and also allow us to move our arm. Rotator cuff tendonitis occurs when any one of these tendons becomes irritated and inflamed. Rotator cuff tendonitis is sometimes also known as impingement syndrome because in some cases individuals may feel like their arm is being pinched while it is moving through their range of motion. Those suffering from shoulder pain should immediately seek Rotator Cuff Physiotherapy, as treatment in early stages can help to facilitate better recovery.
Causes of Shoulder Rotator Cuff Tendonitis:
Rotator cuff tendonitis is caused by the irritation and possible damage of the rotator cuff tendons due to repetitive overhead movement of the arm. The injury usually develops slowly over time due to these repetitive movements that aggravate the tendons. Young athletes and middle aged adults commonly develop rotator cuff tendonitis. Certain activities put individuals at a higher risk for developing tendonitis, such as swimming, baseball, tennis, and painting. Sometimes sleeping constantly with your arms in an overhead position may also contribute to the condition. Poor posture and aging can also cause the development of rotator cuff tendonitis.
